At Dasi Glam we have frequently mentioned that one of our goals is to create a community of Artists and Creatives. We invited you to present your designs and art here and even wrote a few questions to help you in your presentation.

Háblanos un poco sobre ti:

Soy fotógrafo/diseñador y ejercí la docencia por 5 años en institutos de diseño. Actualmente trabajo como independiente.

Más que una herramienta dentro de mi trabajo siento a la fotografía como mi gran pasión. Siempre he creído que no puedes ser realmente bueno en algo si no estás enamorado de ello. El broche de oro ideal luego de tu formación detrás del lente es poder decir que amas la fotografía.

Tell us a bit about you:

I’m a photographer/designer and have been teaching at different design institutes for 5 years. At present I work independently.

More than a tool of my job, I feel photography as my great passion. I’ve always believed that you can’t be really good at something if you’re not in love with it. The ideal perfect final after your formation behind the camera is to be able to say that you love photography.

¿Cómo empezaste con la fotografía?

Al principio usaba la fotografía como un recurso más en mi trabajo como diseñador, pero poco a poco se fue convirtiendo en pasión y hoy por hoy estoy dedicado a ella casi por completo. En mis inicios con la fotografía desarrollaba principalmente el género documental y conceptual, aunque mi inclinación actual es por la fotografía de moda alternativa. Sin embargo, no dejo de cultivar y explorar diversos géneros.

How did you start with photography?

At the beginning I used photography as an additional resource in my work as a designer; little by little it became my passion and today I’m almost completely dedicated to it. When I started taking photographs, I mostly developed the documentary and conceptual genres; now I’m leaning towards alternative fashion photography, even though I continue to cultivate and explore diverse genres.

¿Qué te inspira?

Lo diferente, inusual, cualquier cosa alejada de clichés y estereotipos. No exploro esas temáticas solo por parecer diferente sino porque realmente son las cosas que siempre me han apasionado. De hecho yo documento fotográficamente casi cualquier experiencia; mis viajes, salidas con mis amigos, muestras artísticas a las que asisto etc. Y aún así trato de enfocar todo de una manera no convencional.

What inspires you?

Everything that is different, unusual, far away from clichés and stereotypes. I don’t explore those themes just to look different but because they really are what I have developed a passion for. In fact, I document photographically almost any experience; my travels, when I go out with friends, art exhibitions, etc. Even then, I try to approach everything in an unconventional way.

Háblanos un poco sobre tu proceso creativo

Por mi parte siempre comienza con imaginar las fotografías que como espectador siempre quise ver. De ahí en adelante me pongo como meta crearlas.

En el caso de la fotografía con modelos me gusta que haya una colaboración entre ambos para definir el estilo de la sesión. Del resto no tengo mayor tecnicismo a la hora de crear conceptos para mis fotos.

Tell us a bit about your creative process

It always begins by imagining the photos that I always wanted to see as a spectator. From then on, my goal is to create them.

In photography with models, I like it when there’s collaboration between both, to define the style of the session. Otherwise I don’t’ have any major techniques when creating concepts for my photos.

¿Qué planes tienes para el futuro?

Seguir mi preparación y ampliar horizontes además de seguir explorando las capacidades de la fotografía como medio de expresión artística. Ahora mismo siento una gran apertura hacia la apreciación de la fotografía como arte.

Estoy muy agradecido por todos los buenos comentarios y reseñas que he recibido desde dentro y fuera de mi país, por lo que eso me impulsa a tratar de hacerlo mejor cada día.

What are your plans for the future?

To continue my preparation and broaden horizons; also, to keep exploring capacities in photography as a medium to express art. Right now I’m feeling very open to the appreciation of photography as art.

I'm very grateful for all the good reviews and comments I have received in my country and abroad, which drives me to try and do it better each day.

¿Qué consejos puedes dar a quienes quieren iniciarse con la fotografía?

Que crean en lo que hacen y nunca dejen de aprender. Revisen libros y páginas web de fotografía. El “feedback” con otros fotógrafos es enriquecedor y te lleva a abrirte creativamente. Por último practiquen mucho hasta encontrar el estilo con el que se sientan identificados.

Cuando una imagen recién lograda te llena espiritualmente y entra a ese grupo de fotos que como espectador siempre quisiste ver, entonces has logrado tu cometido.

What advice can you give to anyone that wants to learn photography?

Believe in what you do and never stop learning. Check photography books and web pages. The feedback with other photographers is enriching and motivates the openness of your creativity. Lastly, practice a lot until you find the style you identify yourself with.

When a recently made image inspires you spiritually and is included in that group of photos you always wanted to see as a spectator, then you have reached your goal.

Trabajo también junto a Ana Isabel Orozco y Adolfo Germaya en la organización del Nido Mercado de Arte y Diseño; espacio donde se muestran las nuevas tendencias en diseño, artes plásticas, ilustración, fotografía, artes del fuego y música electrónica. Es realizado dos veces por año, durante 4 días, en la Galería Universitaria Braulio Salazar.

Is there anything else you would like to mention?

Tenemos tantas ideas que a veces la mayor dificultad es elegir una.

Como seguimos en plan de organizarnos estamos usando Tableros de Inspiración, lo que nos facilita el trabajo una barbaridad porque, a medida que los vas haciendo empiezas a ver qué ideas funcionan bien y cuáles no tanto.

El único problema es que te dan nuevas ideas, pero que le vamos a hacer…

We have so many ideas that sometimes the major problem is to choose one.

Since we’re still trying to get more organized, we’re using Inspiration Boards; they make our work so much easier because, as you make them, it’s obvious which ideas work well and witch not so much.

The only problem is that they give your entirely different ideas, but what can we do…

Authentic Educator

Un Tablero de Inspiración es solamente una base sobre la que pegas recortes, fotos, dibujos, pequeños objetos, trozos de telas, materiales de joyería, en fin… cualquier cosa que te guste y que te inspire para la idea que estás trabajando. Puede ser como un collage, puedes asegurar todo con chinches de colores o pega, sobreponer todo o colocarlo de forma ordenada, como quieras. Los puedes hacer en cualquier formato y de cualquier tamaño.

Muchos artistas los usan y aquí te damos varios ejemplos. ¿Ves como cada uno es completamente diferente de los otros?

An Inspiration Board is solely a base, over which you attach paper scraps, photos, drawings, little objects, fabric scraps, jewelry materials and so on. .. Anything you like and which inspires you for the idea you’re working on. It can be a collage, you can pin everything with colored pins or glue, overlap everything or place it in an orderly fashion, as you wish. And they can be made in any format or size.

Many artists use them and we’re showing a few examples here. See how each one is completely different from the other?

Wedding Nouveau

Generalmente se usan como inspiración para elegir o iniciar un proyecto, aclarar ideas sobre materiales y colores, elegir un tema sobre otros, revisar visualmente colores y formas, presentar una idea a otras personas y pare usted de contar.

They are generally used as inspiration to choose or initiate a project, clear your ideas about materials and colors, decide on a theme over others, visually check colors and formats, present an idea to other people and anything else you can come up with.

Clamity Jem

Después que los empezamos a usar no sabemos qué hacer sin ellos y no iniciamos un proyecto sin hacer como mínimo un collage sobre un tablero para revisar modelos y colores.

Son muy sencillos de hacer y con materiales de poco costo, pero nuestros preferidos son los de corcho porque los podemos usar muchas veces.

After we started using them we can’t go without them and won’t start a project without at least a collage over a board, to check designs and colors.

They are very simple to make with small cost materials, and we prefer those made in cork because they can be used so many times.

Eldera Jewelry

Para hacer uno con corcho, compra un tablón de madera ligera o formica, y atorníllale un ganchito para guindar en el reverso (o varios si es muy grande).

Pega una lámina de corcho sobre el tablón. Sobre una superficie plana voltea el corcho hacia abajo y recorta el exceso de los lados con un exacto bien afilado. Cubre toda la superficie con algo pesado (como libros, por ejemplo) y deja secar muy bien.

Cuélgalo en alguna parte y está listo.

To actually make one with cork, just buy a light wood or formic board and attach a little hanger on the back (or more if it’s really big).

Glue the cork on the board. Turn the board over a straight surface and trim the excess on the sides with a sharp cutter. Cover the entire surface with something heavy (i.e. books) and let dry very well.

Hang it somewhere and you’re good to go.

Otra opción es que uses un marco para cuadros. Solo tienes que recortar un corcho para que quepa dentro del marco y dejarlo al natural o recubrirlo con tela, si así lo prefieres.

Un dato: si vas a usar chinches o alfileres, compra el corcho con 1 cm de grueso por lo menos. No trates de usar varios corchos uno sobre otro porque se van despegando.

Es así de sencillo.

Another option is to use a picture frame. Just trim the cork so it fits inside the frame and leave it like that or, if you prefer, cover it with fabric.

Tip: if you’re going to use any kind of pins make sure you buy the cork with at least 1 cm depth. Don’t try to use thinner cork sheets one over the other because they start to unglue.


It’s this simple.

Háblanos un poco sobre ti:

Recientemente egresé de la carrera de Artes Plásticas, mi esposo, José Davalillo es Diseñador gráfico, dos cosas que ha influenciado directamente mi trabajo de indumentaria; además, mi mamá es modista y desde pequeña me alentó a diseñar mi propia ropa. Eventualmente me di cuenta que podía “customizar”, ensamblar e incluso crear -lo que ya hacía para mí- con fin de venderlo y así compartir mis ideas.

Háblanos un poco sobre tus creaciones y proceso creativo:

Al igual que la obra plástica, crear una pieza de indumentaria resulta de experimentar con los materiales que me vaya consiguiendo, crear composiciones y ver como fluye la idea.

Tell us a bit about you:

I just finished a career in Plastic Arts, my husband José Davalillo is a Graphic Designer, two things that have directly influenced my attire work; besides that, my mother is a seamstress and encouraged me to design my own clothes since I was little. Eventually I realized that I could customize, assemble and even create the same things I did for myself, sell them and therefore share my ideas.


Tell us about your designs and creative process:

As in a plastics art work, to create an attire piece results from experimenting with the materials I get together, create compositions and see how the idea flows.

¿Cómo empezaste a hacer tus piezas?

Como dije arriba, desde que recuerdo he buscado la manera de “customizar” la ropa que tenía, y claro, mi mamá me dio mucha libertad de decidir que quería usar de pequeña. Eso evolucionó en una serie de propuestas para conseguir dinero extra y aprovechar el tiempo libre y terminó convirtiéndose en un proyecto de vida.

How did you start making your creations?

As I said before, since I remember I’ve searched for a way to customize my clothes, and of course, my mother gave me a lot of freedom to decide what I wanted to wear when I was a little girl. This evolved in a series of proposals to get extra money as well as to take advantage of my free time, and ended up becoming a life project.

Las teorías cósmicas, la inmensidad del universo(s), los mundos desconocidos, nuestra mixtura cultural, poemas, diálogos de películas, estar enamorada de las texturas y colores, sonidos y formas.

¿Qué tipo de materiales usas?

Joyería Vintage, telas texturizadas, estampadas, semi cuero, pinturas acrílicas, piedras semipreciosas, cadenas, remaches, herrajes, caracoles, tejidos en crochet, plumas…

What inspires you?

Cosmic theories, the immensity of the universe(s), unknown worlds, our cultural mixture, poems, movie dialogs, being in love with textures and colors, sounds and formats.


What type of materials do you use?

Vintage jewelry, textured and stamped fabric, faux leather, acrylic paintings, semi precious stones, chains, rivets, iron works, shells, crochet, feathers…

¿Cuáles son tus colores y combinaciones preferidos?

Depende totalmente de la idea principal en la colección. Ahora, por ejemplo, estoy trabajando con blancos, negros y degradados de marrón, vino y azul, y lleva por nombre “Como Pájaros”.


What are your favorite colors and combinations?

It totally depends on the collections' main idea. As an example, at this moment I’m working with whites, blacks and brown gradients, burgundy and blue and it’s called “As Birds”.

Cuéntanos un poco sobre una pieza que hayas hecho recientemente y que te haya gustado de forma especial.

El traje con el que participé en la subasta a beneficio de Voceros Del Autismo.

Es la pieza generadora de la colección en la que me encuentro trabajando en este momento. Es un traje coctel rosa claro en raso, strapless, entallado. El detalle del collar de plumas grises y doradas lo complementa perfectamente y puede ser usado también como tocado. Tiene un dije de turmalina turquesa y bronce en el medio.

Tell us a little bit about a recently made design which you have specially liked.

The outfit with which I participated in an auction benefiting Spokespersons for Autism.

It’s the piece that generates the collection in which I’m working at this moment. It’s a satin soft rose colored cocktail dress, strapless, fitted. The gray and gold feather necklace details complement it perfectly, and can also be used as a headdress. It has a turquoise and gold tourmaline pendant in the middle.

¿Cuál consideras que es tu toque personal?

Creo que sería trabajar cada pieza como una obra, usando el mismo proceso e incluso la misma inspiración, haciendo la indumentaria otra rama de mi propuesta artística. Tratando de leer, ver películas, documentales, escuchar música y toda actividad generadora de emociones que puedan desembocar en ideas creativas.

Which do you believe to be your personal touch?

I believe it is to work each piece as a work of art, using the same process and even the same inspiration, making the outfit another branch of my artistic proposal. Trying to read, see movies, documentaries, listen to music and all emotion generating activity which may culminate in creative ideas.

Expandirme como marca fuera de Venezuela, participar en más eventos de moda que involucren el arte como propuesta usable, “ponible”, “wearable”.

¿Qué consejos nos puedes dar?

Todo en la vida tiene un concepto, seguir las ideas es genial pero también lo es trabajar con un elemento inspirador y darle significado a lo que se está creando. Y claro… ser un agente transgresor en el arte.

What future plans do you have?

Expand overseas as a brand; participate in more fashion events that involve art as a usable and wearable proposal.


What advice can you give us?

Everything in life has a concept, to follow ideas is great but it’s also great to work with an inspiring element and give significance to what is being created. And of course, being a transgression agent in art.

¿Hay alguna otra cosa que nos quieras contar?

Estoy trabajando para lanzar la próxima colección “Como Pájaros” en febrero. Habrá muchas plumas, telas vaporosas, transparencias, volúmenes y caídas, prendas de autor y accesorios para todos los gustos. Solo hay que animarse a ser parte de este “happening” que es el día a día.


Is there something else you would like to mention?

I’m working to launch my next collection “As Birds” in February. It’ll include many feathers, sheer fabrics, transparencies, fabrics' volume and falls, author jewelry and accessories for all tastes. You just have to embrace being a part of this happening that is the day to day.

We’re in love with this collection in case you haven’t noticed yet and ended up working all weekend, but with “gusto”. When you’re passionate about something it just doesn’t seem like work, does it?

Para los que no saben, viviendo en un país Caribeño tenemos buen clima durante todo el año; después de la Navidad todo el mundo empieza a planificar sus vacaciones de Carnaval y Semana Santa. Mucha gente viaja y les gusta verse bien, así que puedes apostar que sus looks son planificados con cuidado.

For those who don’t know, living in a Caribbean country we have good climate all year around, and after Christmas everybody starts planning their Carnival and Holly Week vacations. Most people travel and they like to look great so you can bet that their outfits are carefully planned!

Lots of bikinis and bathing suits, summery dresses, floating fabrics, cute T-shirts and bright colors.

Teniendo esto en mente queríamos crear una colección que recordara la playa y que también tuviese una imagen de elegancia glam casual. Que pudiese ser usada con un look de verano durante el día y que también quedara bien con un aspecto más bohemio para salir en la noche.

With this in mind we wanted to create a collection that had a “beachy” feeling to it as well as an image of glam casual elegance; that could be worn with a summer outfit during the day but also worked with a bohemian look on a night out.
