Háblanos un poco sobre ti.
Nací y me crié en la Isla de Margarita, tengo 25 años y soy Ingeniero metalúrgico, ejerciendo paralelamente con el diseño de joyas. Me cuenta mi madre que siempre estaba haciendo alguna manualidad cuando era pequeña; un regalo de navidad fue una fábrica de joyas de papel y recuerdo que mi primer diseño se lo hice a mi mamá y fue un rosario.

Tell us a little bit about you.
I was born and raised at Margarita Island, I’m 25 years old and am a metallurgical engineer, which I work at the same time as jewelry design. My mother tells me that I was always making some kind of crafts when I was a little girl; a Christmas gift was a paper jewelry factory and I remember that my first design was a rosary which I made for my mother.

Háblanos un poco sobre tus creaciones y proceso creativo.
Un diseño Lexys Narváez siempre es una pieza única, son inspirados en las mujeres que desean verse glamorosas, distinguidas y elegantes pero con el toque fresco y caribeño de la mujer Margariteña y Venezolana. Mi taller es mi casa y todos los días diseño. Muchas veces plasmo la idea de una joya en un dibujo pero casi siempre el diseño sale por si solo cuando me siento frente a mis herramientas. Apenas llevo un año y medio en este MUNDO, porque el diseño de joyas es un mundo... ¡y muy hermoso!

Tell us about your creations and creative process.
A Lexys Narváez design is always a unique piece, inspired on women that want to look glamorous, distinguished and elegant, but with the fresh and Caribbean touch of the women from Margarita Island and Venezuela. My workshop is my home and I design every day. Many times I make a drawing of a jewelry design, but most of the time the design comes out on its own when I sit in front of my tools. I have only been in this WORLD for a year and a half, because jewelry design is a world… and very beautiful!

¿Cómo empezaste a hacer tus piezas?
Todo empezó con una flor... Estuve un tiempo desempleada y decidí buscar alternativas... Aprendí por medios propios a hacer flores de tela para zarcillos y la primera que hice me generó una alegría tan grande que hasta me tomé una foto para mostrarla. Luego las cosas fluyeron, tomé un curso de alambrismo con una reconocida diseñadora margariteña y fue cuando este sueño empezó.

How did you start making your designs?
Everything started with a flower… I was unemployed for a while and decided to look for alternatives. I learned on my own to make fabric flower for earrings and the first I made me so happy that I even took a photo to show it. Then things just flowed, I took a wirework course with a recognized designer from Margarita Island and this dream started.

Me inspiran las cosas bonitas de la vida... Los sueños, la inocencia, la alegría, la libertad y la lucha por cumplir metas.

What inspires you?
I'm inspired by the lovely things in life. Dreams, innocence, joy, freedom and the struggle to reach goals.

Alambres anti empañe, piedras semi-preciosas, cueros e hilos.

ALL COLORS AND COMBINATIONS ARE VALID! As long as you work with dedication and passion, any design will be a work of art.

The CIDADE JARDIN earrings, which represent the flower with which all started.

¿Cuál consideras que es tu toque personal?
La sencillez de las piezas. No diseñar piezas tan recargadas y mi firma en cada una de las joyas, "LN" en alambrismo.

Which do you believe to be your personal touch?
The simplicity of the designs. Not designing complicated pieces and my signature in each of the jewels, “LN” in wire work.

Estudio arquitectura, aunque amo el diseño en general, la música y la ropa.

Tell us a little bit about you:
I’m studying architecture, although I love design in general, music and clothes.

Háblanos un poco sobre tus creaciones y proceso creativo.
Mis piezas por lo general son postres, dulces, etc.; me encanta hacer diseños así porque amo los dulces, helados, tortas, cupcakes, y tener accesorios con esos motivos me encantan. Me encanta las cosas vintage por eso trato de darle un poco de esa estilo a mis diseños.

Tell us about your creations and creative process.
My pieces are generally desserts, sweets, etc. I love making these kinds of designs because I love sweets, ice cream, cakes, cupcakes, and having accessories with those motives makes me happy. I also love everything vintage, so I try to include a little of that style in my designs.

¿Cómo empezaste a hacer tus piezas?
Comencé a los 14 años, hace ya 6 años. Empecé a ver piezas hechas en arcilla polimérica en internet y me gustaron tanto que quise intentarlo y desde entonces estoy en ello.

How did you start making your designs?
I started when I was 14, 6 years ago. I started seeing pieces made in polymeric clay on the web and I liked them so much that I wanted to try making them and am doing it since then.

¿Qué te inspira?
Los dulces; amo hornear y cocinar y eso llevó a mis dijes. Amo la pastelería francesa, macarons, tarte tatin, croquembouche, etc., y también algo de influencia de Maria Antonieta en lo colorido y lo femenino.

What inspires you?
Sweets; I love baking and cooking, and from there I ended up making charms. I love French pastries, macarons, tarte tatin, croquembouche, etc, and also a little bit of Marie Antoinette’s influence in the colors and femininity.

¿Qué tipo de materiales usas?
Uso Arcilla polimérica para todos los dijes; es una masa que parece plastilina pero se endurece al hornearlo, es mi principal material, también uso alambre y cadena, pero eso ya es en la parte del armado.

What kind of materials do you use? Polymeric clay for all the charms; it’s a material similar to play dough but it hardens when baked. It’s my main material although I also use chains but mainly for completing the pieces.

¿Cuáles son tus colores y combinaciones preferidos?
Amo el color menta, es mi color favorito a parte del verde, amarillo y el dorado. ¿Combinaciones? Me gusta el menta combinado con dorado y quizás lavanda. El rosado pálido, dorado y marrón quizás.

Which are your favorite color combinations?
I love mint; it’s my favorite color besides green, yellow and gold. Combinations? I like mint combined with gold and maybe lavender. Maybe pale pink, gold and brown.

Cuéntanos un poco sobre una pieza que hayas hecho recientemente y que te haya gustado de forma especial.
La última creación que hice fue un cupcake con crema y una fresa. No es lo más original del mundo, pero le pinté el capacillo de color dorado y amé la combinación. Otras de mis últimas piezas favoritas es un anillo de una tarta de cerezas con pepitas doradas que hice, provoca comerlo. Pero la verdad amo todas mis piezas en particular, todas son hechas por mí y por eso a todas les tengo aprecio.

Tell us a little bit about a recently made design which you have specially liked.
My last creation was a cupcake with cream and a strawberry. It’s not the most original thing in the world but I painted it in gold and loved the combination. Another or my latest favorite pieces is a ring of a cherry pie with gold dots that I made, you just want to eat it. But to tell the truth I love all my pieces, all are made by me and so I like them all.

¿Cuál consideras que es tu toque personal?
Lo dulce, supongo, la verdad es que no lo había pensando, pero pienso que mi marca es como una pastelería en miniatura.

Which do you believe to be your personal touch?
Sweets I guess, the truth is I hadn’t thought about it, but I think my brand is like a mini pastry.

¿Qué planes tienes para el futuro?
Seguir con lo que hago, aunque me gustaría expandirme a otras cosas. Como me gusta el diseño y dibujar me gustaría hacer camisas con diseños, vestidos, entre otras cosas.


¿Qué consejos nos puedes dar?
El consejo que les puedo dar es persistir, aunque al principio nadie pregunte por tus piezas, llegará un momento en que sí lo harán y las conocerán. He llegado a conocer gente de otros países como Chile y Colombia, y siempre me pregunto cómo llegaron a obtener mis piezas.

What plans do you have for the future?
Keep doing what I do, even though I would like to expand to other things. I like design and drawing so I would like to make designed shirts, dresses, among other things.


What advice could you give us?
My best advice is to persist, even if at the beginning nobody asks for your pieces, there will be a moment when they will and will get to know them. I’ve met people from other countries like Chile and Colombia and I always ask myself how they got my pieces.

Háblanos un poco sobre ti:
Soy Diseñadora Gráfico egresada del Instituto de Diseño de Valencia, cuento con más de 10 años de experiencia profesional trabajando en algunas agencias de publicidad, hasta que tomé la decisión de retomar el trabajo manual. Una forma de volver a mis inicios cuando era estudiante y nos exigían que todos los diseños debían ser realizados completamente a mano, precisamente para dar ese toque que es particular en cada uno; adicionalmente tenía el deseo de disfrutar de plena libertad creativa.

Háblanos un poco sobre tus creaciones y proceso creativo:
Todas mis piezas responden a un proceso previo de diseño donde tomo en cuenta concepto, forma, diagramación, uso del color, texturas. Es gracias a ello que cada pieza forma parte de una colección específica, la idea es brindarle al público una propuesta fresca e innovadora.

Tell us a little bit about you:
I’m a Graphic Designer graduated from the Valencia Design Institute and I have more than 10 years of professional experience, working with some publicity agencies until I decided to return to handcrafting. It’s a way of returning to my origins when I was a student and we had to make all designs completely by hand, precisely to obtain that particular touch in each; additionally I wanted to enjoy complete creative freedom.


Tell us a bit about your creations and creative process:
All my pieces respond to a previous design process where I consider concept, format, diagram, use of color and textures. Due to this, each piece is part of a specific collection; the idea is to give the public a fresh and innovative proposal.

¿Cómo empezaste a hacer tus piezas?
Empecé a trabajar el gres, aunque más bien lo retomé. Estudié cerámica cuando estaba cursando mi carrera como materia electiva, diseñé algunas colecciones con este material hasta que me sentí con seguridad para diseñar y elaborar mis accesorios en distintos metales como bronce, cobre y plata. Llevo un año y medio estudiando formalmente orfebrería en la Escuela de Orfebrería Arigana.

How did you start making your designs?
Initially I started working ceramics (gres), better yet, I retook it. I studied ceramics when studying my career as an elective subject, designed some collections in this material until I felt secure enough to design and make my accessories from different materials such as bronze, copper and silver. I have been formally studying goldsmithing for a year and a half at Escuela de Orfebrería Arigana

¿Qué tipo de materiales usas?
Trabajo principalmente con bronce al que se le aplican baños de oro o de plata según sea el caso. El elemento de metal es lo más importante y todo debe girar en torno a él siendo complementado por cueros, cordones, piedras semipreciosas por mencionar algunos.

What materials do you use?
I work mainly with bronze and then plate it with gold or silver, whichever is the case. The most important is the metal material and everything should be centered in it and then complemented with leathers, cords and semi-precious stones, to mention a few.

Cuéntanos un poco sobre una pieza que hayas hecho recientemente y que te haya gustado de forma especial.
No sería justa si digo que tengo una o varias piezas favoritas; todas representan un momento, una propuesta distinta que vino a mostrar algo pero las dos últimas colecciones -ambas realizadas en honor a Venezuela- me han dejado recuerdos muy gratos y hasta conmovedores de parte de mis clientes.

Tell us a little bit about a recently made design which you have specially liked.
It wouldn’t be fare to say that I have one or various favorite pieces; every one represents a moment, a different proposal that arrived to show something, but the last two collections –both made in honor of Venezuela- have left great and even touching memories on behalf of my clients.

¿Cuál consideras que es tu toque personal?
El diseño para mi es fundamental al igual que el acabado, esos pequeños detalles que marcan la diferencia, pero lo más importante es que garantizo que todas y cada una de mis piezas son exclusivas. El término pieza única en mi caso es literal, realmente sólo elaboro una pieza por cada modelo con lo que garantizo que más nadie podrá adquirir una pieza igual, ni siquiera parecida.

Which do you believe to be your personal touch?
The design is crucial to me as well as the finishing touches, those little details that make the difference; but most importantly, I guarantee that all and every one of my pieces are exclusive. The term unique piece is literal in my case, I really just make one piece of each design, and therefore I guarantee that no one else can acquire the same design, not even a similar one.

Nombre de tu empresa: Shimú Orfebrería
El nombre Shimú viene de la civilización Chimú del norte de Perú, quiénes sobresalieron entre las civilizaciones prehispánicas por sus finos trabajos de orfebrería. La técnica metalúrgica de esta cultura fue tan extraordinaria, que los Incas trasladaron al Cuzco a muchos orfebres chimúes para que enseñaran el arte de labrar los metales a sus similares Cuzqueños.

Name of your company: Shimú Orfebrería
The name Shimú comes from the Chimú civilization from northern Peru, which excelled among the pre-Hispanic civilizations for their delicate work of precious metals. This culture’s metallurgical technique was so extraordinary, that the Incas moved many silver and goldsmith chimúes to Cuzco, to teach the art of metal carving to the Cuzqueños.

Háblanos un poco sobre ti:
Estudié Administración de Turismo en la USB del Litoral y luego hice un Master en Diseño Gráfico en Madrid-España, al igual que un curso de fotografía. Me encantan y valoro las piezas hechas a mano. Soy muy curiosa e inquieta y como buena representante del signo Géminis no paro jamás de hablar, de inventar y de buscar la forma divertida de hacer las cosas.

Tell us a bit about you:
I studied Turism Administration at USB and then studied a Master’s Degree in Graphic Design in Madrid, Spain, as well as photography. I love and value handmade pieces. I’m also very curious and restless, and as a good representative of the Gemini zodiac sign I never stop talking, creating and finding a fun way to make things.

Háblanos un poco sobre tus creaciones y proceso creativo:
Me encanta la naturaleza, el aire libre y la luz del día, por eso me inspiro sobre todo en la naturaleza. Voy por todos lados observándolo todo y pensando, creando… mi cabeza no para jamás y si llevo la cámara de fotos conmigo ya es el delirio total. Me inspiran las imágenes, muchas veces me siento a ver fotos y de allí surgen mil ideas, que tengo que dibujar en la libreta de hojas blancas que va siempre conmigo.

Tell us about your designs and creative process:
I love nature, being outside and day light, so I am inspired mainly by nature. I go everywhere observing everything and thinking, creating… my mind doesn’t stop ever and if I have my camera with me it’s a total delirium. I’m inspired by images; many times I sit and look at the photos and get a thousand ideas, which I have to draw in a white page notebook I always carry with me.

¿Cómo empezaste a hacer tus piezas?
La verdad es que la motivación vino porque tengo las manos muy delgadas por lo que todos los anillos y pulseras que consigo en las tiendas me quedan grandes. Me enamoraba de mil accesorios que no podía usar. En ese momento mi cuñada estudiaba orfebrería y vi una ventana de oportunidad de hacer mis propios accesorios. Luego vi que tenían éxito cuando mis compañeras de oficina comentaban que les gustaba y comenzaron a hacerme encargos.

How did you start making your creations?
To tell the truth my motivation came from having very thin hands, so all rings and bracelets I find in stores are too big for me. I fell in love with a thousand accessories I couldn’t use. At that moment my sister in law was studying goldsmithing and I saw a window of opportunity; I could make my own accessories. Then I saw they were successful when my office co-workers liked and started to order them.

¿Qué te inspira?
La naturaleza sobre todo, los colores y la libertad. Adoro la sensación de plasmar en una pieza todo lo que tienes en tu imaginario, en lo que eres y que sea aceptado y admirado por tu entorno.

What inspires you?
Specially nature, color and freedom. I love the sensation of expressing in a design all you have in your imagination, in what you are, and that it is accepted and admired by your social environment.

¿Qué tipo de materiales usas?
Uno de los sellos de Shimú es el de usar siempre materiales de primera calidad. Trabajo en plata y bronce con baños de oro. Yute y cuero siempre están presentes en las piezas, piedras semipreciosas como ágatas y perlas muchas perlas!

What type of materials do you use?
One of Shimú’s characteristics is to always use prime quality materials. I work with silver and bronze which is then gold plated. Jute and leather are always present in the pieces, semi-precious stones such as Agathas and pearls, lots of pearls.

¿Cuáles son tus colores y combinaciones preferidos?
¡Me encantan todos los colores! Pero para mí la comunión perfecta es el turquesa con el marrón chocolate, el fucsia con perlas y el rojo coral con turquesa… aunque la verdad es que todos los colores son hermosos y de acuerdo a la ocasión y el estilo que tengamos los podemos usar con infinidad de combinaciones.

What are your favorite colors and combinations?
I love all colors! But to me, the perfect combination is turquoise with chocolate brown, fuchsia with pearls and coral red with turquoise. To tell you the truth all colors are beautiful and, depending on the occasion and style, we can use them in infinity of combinations.

Cuéntanos un poco sobre una pieza que hayas hecho recientemente y que te haya gustado de forma especial:
¡Todas las piezas me encantan! Me gusta la sencillez y el color, que cualquier pieza vaya con cualquier tipo de estilo de persona, que sean casuales pero con un toque de elegancia y sobre todo que no sean iguales a todo el mundo. Me gusta ser diferente, única, auténtica, esas son las piezas que me gustan.

Tell us a little bit about a recently made design which you have specially liked:
I love all pieces! I like their simplicity and color, that any design will match any style of person, that they are casual and yet have a touch of elegance and, above all, that they are different from all other. I like to be different, unique and authentic, those are the designs I like.

¿Cuál consideras que es tu toque personal?
Los acabados sin duda, jamás sale a la venta una pieza con detalles. También el hecho de que puedo hacer piezas totalmente adaptadas a las necesidades de las personas, a su gusto. Y que solo hago tres piezas similares, por lo que no vas a encontrar a cientos de personas con tus mismos accesorios, la exclusividad es un plus que ofrezco como diseñadora.

Which do you believe to be your personal touch?
The finishing touches, most definitely. I never sell a piece with a detail. Also, the fact that I can make pieces totally adapted to a person’s needs, to their taste. I only make a maximum of three similar pieces, so you will never find hundreds of persons with your same accessory. Exclusivity is a plus that I offer as a designer.

Keep learning to offer lovelier and even more versatile designs to my clients, and most of all continue to believe in my country and make it grow and prosper as we all wish to see.

El mejor trabajo que se puede tener es el que amas hacer, te permite disfrutarlo y no necesitas mayor motivación que la satisfacción de ver que lo que haces gusta mucho a la gente. Hay que hacer las cosas con cariño, pasión y calidad, para mí es la clave del éxito.

What advice can you give us?

The work you love is the best one you can have. You can enjoy it and never need more motivation other than the satisfaction of seeing that what you do is well liked by other people. Things have to be made with care, passion and quality; to me that is the key to success.

Estoy muy agradecida con las personas que han creído en el sueño de crear esta marca, que han creído en mi talento y dedicación y han permitido que todo esto sea posible.
