Hemos comentado con frecuencia en Dasi Glam que una de nuestras metas es crear una comunidad de Artistas y Creativos. Para ello te hemos invitado a presentar tus piezas aquí y hasta elaboramos unas preguntas para ayudarte a presentarlas. Hoy tenemos el gran honor de presentar la primera de nuestras Creativas: Mun Muntadas de Barcelona, España.
Hace más o menos tres años estuve en Barcelona y quedé impresionada con el ambiente artístico que se vive en todas partes, la energía positiva que consigues donde quiera que vayas, la creatividad que flota en el aire. Son una ciudad y un pueblo verdaderamente increíbles. Mun es fiel representante de esa energía y de esa creatividad sin límites y quedamos encantadas con sus piezas mágicas.

At Dasi Glam we have often mentioned that one of our goals is to create a community of Artists and Creatives. We have invited you to present your designs here, and even written a few questions to help you in your presentation. Today we are very honored to present the first of our Creatives: Mun Muntadas of Barcelona, Spain.
I was in Barcelona about three years ago and was very impressed with the artistic environment that you find everywhere, the positive energy that you perceive wherever you go and the creativity that floats in the air. They are a really an incredible city and people. Mun is a true representative of this energy and limitless creativity and we are fascinated by her magical pieces.
Here she is, introducing herself in her own words.
Me llamo
Montse Duran Muntadas, soy de Terrassa (Barcelona) y soy Licenciada en Bellas Artes por la Universidad de Barcelona.
Aunque durante mis años escolares me dediqué sobre todo a los estudios científicos, en gran parte a causa de las ideas familiares en las que trabajar de algo artístico era imposible, desde muy pequeña la Creatividad me hacía transformar cualquier objeto en algo bello y dotarlo de un nuevo significado.

My name is
Montse Duran Muntadas, I’m from Terrassa (Barcelona) and I’m a Bachelor in Fine Arts by the Barcelona University.
Even though during my studies I was mostly dedicated to scientific studies, mainly due to the influence of my family’s beliefs about how it was impossible to work as an artist, ever since I was very young Creativity made me transform any object into something beautiful and assign it a new meaning.
Mi pasión por el vidrio empezó una noche mientras veía una película junto a mi padre. En una de las escenas la protagonista salía en un taller soplando una pieza. Yo, por aquel entonces (debía tener unos 12 años) desconocía ese material más que por su utilización en ventanas y demás. Al ver que se podía trabajar como semi-líquido, que se le podía insuflar aire y modificar su volumen, me pareció MÁGICO.

My passion for glass started one night while seeing a movie with my father. On one of the scenes the main character was in a workshop hand-blowing a piece of glass. At that time (I was maybe 12) I didn’t know this material beyond its common use in windows and such. When I saw that it could be worked in a semi-liquid state, that you could blow air into it and modify its volume, it was MAGIC.
Eso me impacto tanto, que años más tarde habiendo empezado ya la carrera de Bellas Artes y sin encontrar un material con el que identificarme, abandoné los estudios para irme a la Real Fábrica de Vidrios de Segovia, donde me enseñarían y practicaría con varias técnicas; vidrio al soplete, vidrio soplado, vitrales, fusing, termoformado, etc. Pero sobre todo fue donde conocí artistas internacionales y grandes maestros del vidrio, que -al verlos trabajar- me transmitieron esa pasión tan necesaria y tan importante para moldear y crear con el vidrio.

It had such an impact on me that years later, having already initiated my Fine Art studies and by then still not having found a material with which to identify myself, I abandoned my studies to go to the Segovia Royal Glass Factory, where I would learn and practice with various techniques such as blowtorched and mouth-blown glass, stained-glass, fusing, thermoformed glass, etc. But it was also where I met international artists and great masters of the glass art, who –by seeing them work- transmitted to me that passion so necessary and so important to mold and create with glass.
De vuelta a la Universidad realicé varios proyectos artísticos en los que unía aquello que más me interesa, las emociones intrínsecas de las personas, sus vivencias y sentimientos, con el material que para mí sabe evocarlo mejor: el vidrio.

Upon returning to the University I made various artistic projects uniting what interests me more: people’s intrinsic emotions, their experiences and feelings, together with a material which –to me- knows how to evoke them like no other: glass.
A partir de ahí inicié en paralelo mi proyecto de joyería en vidrio, Mun Muntadas. En él utilizo la técnica del vidrio al soplete, creando piezas únicas ya que se realizan una a una. Intento que cada pieza lleve un poco de esas vivencias personales, transmita un estado de ánimo, una sensación. En ellas el trabajo del color y la técnica son esenciales. Me apasionan los colores del vidrio, transparentes u opacos, jugar con ellos, sobreponerlos, arriesgar en composiciones, atreverse y crear luz y fuerza... La técnica, el valor de las cosas bien hechas, la obsesión por la perfección, el buscar siempre técnicas nuevas, nuevos formatos, sorprender...

Since then in parallel I initiated my glass jewelry Project: Mun Muntadas. I use the blowtorch glass technique, creating unique designs because they are made one by one. I try to instill into each design a little of those personal experiences and that it transmits a state of mind, a sensation. In these pieces the color work and technique are essential. I am passionate about the glass colors, transparent or opaque, playing with them, overlapping them, taking risks on the compositions, daring to create light and strength… The technique, the value of something well done, the obsession for perfection, the search for new techniques, new designs, surprising…
En el vidrio al soplete o soplado cuando inicias una pieza tienes que llegar a su finalización sin poder parar. Durante ese tiempo entre el vidrio y tú hay una conectividad especial, desaparece todo lo demás, el resto no puede existir. Si te equivocas no hay vuelta atrás, pierdes la pieza. En esos momentos se crea un vínculo; un vínculo que los demás pueden ver y que laman PASIÖN.
Actualmente sigo haciendo mis proyectos artísticos y la joyería, abriéndome cada vez más a la colaboración de artesanos que trabajan otros materiales y buscando en la belleza y la originalidad el futuro de mis piezas.

When you work hand-blown glass, when you initiate a piece, you have to end it without stopping. During that time there is a special connection between you and the glass, everything else disappears and cannot exist. Because if you make a mistake, there is no turning back, you lose the piece. During those times a bond is created; a bond that others can see and call PASSION.
Presently I’m still working on my artistic projects and jewelry, opening up more and more to collaboration with artisans who work with other materials, and searching in beauty and originality for the future of my pieces.

Cuéntanos un poco sobre una pieza que hayas hecho recientemente y que te haya gustado de forma especial.
Una de mis últimas creaciones es una pieza que se llama Aika (canción de amor en japonés). Se trata de un proyecto con artistas de técnicas muy diferentes, en el que todos nos hemos basado en un texto para crear una pieza y con las que se realizarán exposiciones itinerantes. Todavía no he publicado fotos, pronto revelaré el secreto. Estoy de lo más orgullosa con el collar que he realizado; ¡me encantan los retos y realizar proyectos artísticos!

We want to know a little more, Mun!
Tell us a bit about a design you have recently made and that you have specially liked.
One of my last creations is a piece called Aika (love song in Japanese). It’s a joint project with artists of very different techniques in which we all have used a text as basis to create a design, and with which we will be making itinerant exhibitions. I still haven’t published photos; the secret will be out very soon. I am very proud of the necklace I’ve made; I love challenges and making artistic projects!
¿Cuál consideras que es tu toque personal?
La verdad es que no lo sé...las mezclas de colores, las formas...no lo sé, pero si sé que mis clientes reconocen mis piezas. ¿Será que transmiten toda la magia que les pongo al hacerlas?

What do you consider to be your personal touch?
To tell you the truth I don’t know… the mixture of colors, formats… I don’t know, but I do know that my clients recognize my designs. ¿Maybe they transmit the magic that I put in when I make them?

¿Qué planes tienes para el futuro?
Para un futuro lejano abrir mi propia tienda con mis creaciones (o mis propias tiendas). Para un futuro más próximo estudiar y practicar más con el vidrio aprendiendo de maestros del vidrio de todo el mundo.
¿Qué consejos nos puedes dar?
Disfrutad y apasionaros con todo lo que hacéis!
¿Hay alguna otra cosa que nos quieras contar?
Jajajaja, ¡creo que es más que suficiente! Se van a cansar de tanto leerme, jejejeje!

What plans do you have for the future?
Long term I want to open my own store with my creations (or my own stores). In a near future to study and practice more with glass, learning from master glass artists all over the world.
